Around The World 10 Pack of Cooking Sauces
I was sent a pack of around the world sauces to review. The packs have sauces based on cuisines from around the world. Smooth Bolognese, chilli non-carne, sweet & sour, tropical curry, tomato & basil, sweet chilli, Thai red curry, Arrabbiata, tikka masala, and Mexican fajita.
The packaging for the jars is bright and colourful with the flavour clearly labelled on the front. Each jar is sold at £3.95 with a variety of packs available to purchase online.
As you can see from the back of the label, all of the ingredients are made up of real things that you can pronounce and recognise. With no additional additives, flavouring or colouring.
From the world pack, I tested two of the flavours, Sweet & Sour and Tikka Masala.
Slightly Different Tikka Masala
I’m the only one in the family who would eat Indian curries, Slightly Different does an excellent job in recreating the Tikka Masala flavours. The fruity creamy sauce is thick from the jar, a couple of spoons is enough to cook one portion and you can add water to have more liquids. From the jar, I could smell the coconut milk and mixed herbs.
The curry hits the spot, thick, creamy, it had just the right balance of flavours and wasn’t overly salty or rich.
Ingredients: Passata, Water, Coconut Milk, Red Pepper, Orange Juice, Papaya, Lemon Juice, Tomato Puree, Rapeseed Oil, Ginger, Cornflour, Herbs & Spices (Coriander, Fenugreek, Smoked Paprika, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Fennel, Cloves, Cardamom), Salt, Glucose, Brown Sugar, Cumin, Turmeric, Cayenne Pepper, Chilli Powder.
Slightly different Sweet & Sour
Each jar should give your two servings, from opening the jar I could smell the smoky paprika coming through.
I added some veggies and chicken and cooked the sauce over a frying pan. It’s not the most flavourful sauce but you can taste all of the natural ingredients, such as pineapple, tomato, and vinegar. Key ingredients that I also would use for the classic Chinese dish if I was to create the sauce from scratch.
Ingredients for the sweet & sour jar, Water, Pineapple (34% – Pineapple Juice, Pineapple), Mixed Peppers, Tomato Paste, Cider Vinegar, Olive Oil, Cornflour, Carrots, Brown Sugar, Ginger, Smoked Paprika, Salt, Black Pepper.
Verdict
The Slightly Different cooking sauces make a great backup for quick meals, which I can count on putting on the table. I made a sweet and sour bento box for my dad and he happily gobbled it up. As he has increasingly health issues, I can use these sauces, knowing that it be easy on his sensitive stomach. I enjoyed the sauces as lighter alternatives to standard jars sold at the supermarkets. The sauces I tried were easy to cook with and just needed to be heated up for a quick serving. With these ready to cook jars, I can make smaller portions for up to two people.
