Cake & Bingsoo Cafe review
It’s no secret that New Malden is known as Korean town; the main high street is full of Korean restaurants to choose from, but what about desserts in the area.
Cake & Bingsoo menu
Cake & Bingsoo Cafe can be found easily from New Malden Rail Station. A short walk along the high street, as the name suggests, they sell cakes, and signature Korean Bingsoo. Other items found on the menu include bubble teas, panni’s, croffle, English cream tea sets, and cakes.
They panni’s feature Korean flavours, Korean BBQ, Kimchi and Cheese is a great pairing.
The cafe is decorated in bright light colours, with vintage style furnishings. With plenty of seating to sit in. The café is one of the places, where you have to go up to the till and order, and they will bring your food & drinks over once it’s ready.
Shaved desserts ice in other countries
Shaved ice desserts are popular in other countries and have their spin on the dessert. The Japanese also name their bings, condensed milk is poured over their soft crushed ice. The Philippines have halo-halo various gummy jellies, crushed ice, ube jam and more.
Signature Korean Bingsoo
The signature bingsoo’s are as huge as the ones I have had in Korea. The gigantic bowl of shaved ice is as big as my head. Bingsoo’s main core component is the finely shaved ice, with sweet toppings, chopped fruit, syrup, red beans and more.
My friends went for the matcha bingsoo (£7.50) and strawberry bingsoo (£7.50). As you can see these are made to share. Cake & Bingsoo is not skimping on the ingredients, not only you get the mountain of shaved ice, there’s a scoop of flavoured on top. The ice is flavoured according to what you order the cooling sensation instantly melts in your mouth. Fresh strawberries surround the outer edge and are topped with a scoop of ice cream. Meanwhile, the matcha green tea flavour ice is soaked with flavour, the red beans are piled to the top and a matcha scoop of ice cream is placed on top.
Matcha cake
I couldn’t stay away from the matcha, ordering a double whammy of the matcha cake and latte to go together. It’s a generous thick slice. The cake is well balanced, the sugar, a layer of red bean paste cream counteracts the bitterness of the matcha flavour.
