JiaBa
JiaBa brings Taiwanese street snacks to the London street food scene. Located in Old Spitalfields market square in Brushfield Street. On the menu, they have their popular signature yansuji chicken, beef noodles, pork sausages, braised pork on rice, fried king oyster mushrooms. JiaBa is a direct translation from Taiwanese “have you eaten”.

Go hungry and order one of the combo boxes for £9.50. I have a weakness for fried food and fried chicken is one of my firm favourites. Yansuji comes in various sizes, strips, bite-size pieces. 5-spice is potent and strong true to the Taiwanese common flavours. Bia Dang is another great Kerb Street food stall. They are deep fried with bubbles on the coating, it was a bit inconsistent with the flavour. Some pieces had none at all and some parts were over seasoned.

Braised pork on rice is excellent, minced pork is cooked just right and not dry. Seasoned well, Shaoxing wine deepened and complemented the soy sauces. It comes with half a tea stained egg, the yolk almost as pale and white as the egg white. Pickled cucumber, carrot and daikon made a great addition to the dish. Sour and crunchy to balance out the rest of the meal.
I also popped to Good Morning Matcha for one of their lemonades. I’ve been missing matcha cocktails the one in Camden closed their doors years ago. Good Mood Matcha makes each order on the spot. It is fascinating to watch them use a traditional whisk and ceremony tea bowl for the matcha powder, then layering the different flavours and finishing the drink with a touch of sparkling water. Resulting in a light refreshing chilled drink.
