Chez Antoinette
Be a tourist in your own city, walk aimlessly around London at your own leisure. Covent Garden is an area that captivates you, it’s a shopping and entertainment hub with theatres, the Royal Opera house and more. The West Piazza, has many stalls, retail shops, with live performers. On the lower ground Chez Antoinette first home can be found, it’s a charming French restaurant/cafe. There’s seating indoors and outdoors for some al fresco dining.
Chez Antoinette history
Chez Antoinette is run by Aurelia Noel-Delclos, drawing childhood memories from her grandmother making her fresh tartines in the kitchen. Aurelia brought her grandmother’s kitchen back to the heart of Covent Garden serving simple delicious French food. There’s also another location in Victoria with a larger capacity and more dinner options.
Interior
The inside of the restaurant is cosy, small, with exposed brick walls, white and pastel green painted walls. Outdoors is a more casual but lively approach, if you’re lucky there should be someone performing by the stairs.
Menu
Given a menu and the time being between morning to lunch, I wanted something light on the stomach. Tartines was just perfect for me and I adore eating toasts with various toppings. Opting for one of the hot les tartines of 3 cheese and pears £8.75. Other options on the menu are cold cheeses, charcuterie board, croque monsieur, brioche breads, salads, homemade soups, homemade desserts and a selection of wines.
What’s a tartine?
Tartines are open face sandwiches, that are toasted slices of bread with various toppings. I love having toasts in the morning, there are endless variations of sweet and savoury flavours you can have.
Served up on white plate, you see this open face toasted bread, with flamed torched three cheeses made up of mozzarella, fourme d’ambert, goat cheese & pears. The gooeyness of melted bubbling cheese overflows the edges of the toast. The prudent blue cheese is addictive, the poach peaches balances the strong cheese flavours well.
Service
Service was friendly and attentive throughout the visit; the server came to check if things were ok throughout. A note for visitors that there are no toilets on site, and the nearest public ones you need to pay to use.
