4 hours in the salon for a colouring session and I got into hungry mode. Portobello Road market is filled with a stretch of restaurants etc. I had a great breakfast at Egg Break in the morning and was fed biscuits, teas and cocktails at the salon. I wanted something small but tasty, anything but a sandwich before I headed home from the day.
I happen to past Pix Pintxos along Portobello Road. I went to a Basque event last year and knew exactly about the pintxo concept. Pintxos is a translation from Spanish meaning thorn or spike.
Pix Pintxos is a Pix Bar, with tapas style food out all on the bar counter for you to pick. From cold and hot small snacks. There are two different prices depending on the length of the stick. Either at £2.25 or £3.25.
I had 4 snacks that was enough that filled me up to almost full. Serrano ham with the tomato base on ciabatta delighted the taste buds. Crunchy croquettes balls filled with a savory mince meat and creamy bechemal white sauce.
Patatas bravas were brilliant, crunchy outer edges and soft in the inside with a plop of tomato sauce. What I find brillant about Pintxos are the fact the small dishes do actually fill you up and you can mix and match to whatever you fancy. The only problem will be if food is left out too long, losing the freshness.
