The first Cookie Time Cookie Bar
Staying nearby to the main centre, in the heart of Queenstown Cookie Time Cookie Bar was moments away from town. It’s the first thing you spot along Camp Street, the big massive sign of the red cookie monster and the cookie time font logo and slogan For Serious Cookie Munchers. You see an open window for takeout and stools outside to eat your desserts. It’s a very popular spot with people going in and out day and night.
History
Cookie Time started off with Michael Mayell and his mum delivering their cookies to Christchurch stores in 1983, that same afternoon they had callbacks from the stories demanding more since then people became hooked.
The MD called them “cookies on crack”
Cookies paradise
After passing Cookie Time Cookie Bar many times during the day and night, we made room for desserts one evening. The store inside is a paradise for cookie lovers, it is very well organised with the bright red wall and rows of milkshake glasses on the countertop. Cookie Time gifts, a claw machine, walls plaster with their branding, at the end of the shop, merchandise and the minivan as a photobooth.
On the menu
The menu is very intensive, cookies for $4. Cookie dough ice-cream, sundaes, shakes, ice cream sandwiches, and other treats. With cookie dough flavours such as fudge brownie cheesecake, Nutella white chocolate brownie, confetti cheesecake, classic chocolate chip, moro bar, fudge & sea salt, double chocolate s’more. As for the ice cream flavour selection you have, salted caramel & cashew, hokey pokey, chocolate fudge brownie, rich dark chocolate, cookies & cream, and vanilla.
I ordered up a half cookie dough and ice cream for $8. A very generous portion of the original chocolate chip cookie dough and cookie’s & cream ice cream piled up high with a cute mini cookie on top. The texture is icy, tasting of milk, little chocolate chips. It’s neither too heavy nor sweet, making it the perfect treat for the night.
Since Cookie Time is beloved by the New Zealanders, I brought a big massive 1kg bag as a souvenir for work colleagues. The MD called them “cookies on crack”.
