I don’t know why it took me so long to finally hit up Shackfuyu, after a failed attempt to go during their pop up. I was lucky, Shackfufu had become a permanent fixture in Soho Crompton Street. The photos of their infamous Kinako French Toast has been in my face all over social media ever since their pop up. Ross Shonhan is the man behind Bone Daddies and Flesh and Buns.

After one night out at a blogger’s event, I met fellow blogger Eat with Steph for the very first time. We hit it off straight away and need to leave the event we was at early. Steph didn’t had any dinner and randomly mentioned Shackfuyu. I told her that it was on my to do list for ages and wanted to make a special visit for the Kinako toast.

We arrived at Old Crompton Street outside of Shackfuyu, even though it was busy and told the guy we only came for desserts we were given seats immediately by the bar.

Popped on the high wooden stalls, we oversaw the bartenders pulling pints and whole of the restaurant. We ordered a Kinako toast each and had ice cold tap water.

Not long after our plates arrived, my eyes gleamed up over the signature dessert dish on the white and blue China plate. The Kinako toast is not like that typical soggy French toast. It’s a thick toasted slice, the edges are crispy, with a honey buttery taste and warm soft center. Dustings of sugar with a soft serve Mr Whippy style Matcha green tea ice cream. So astonishing and oozing with goodness. It’s one of the best desserts I had in a long while. Visit Shackfuyu even if it just for this one dish.
