Always listen to an Italian, when they tell you about a pizza joint. My colleague born and breed in Italy recommended me Franco Manca. She frequents the Brixton branch often, and I was over the moon to have Westfield Stratford as my local branch.
Queuing, I made my choice of pizza and ordered it, watching the staff prepares my freshly cooked pizza. I waited and admire the décor, right bang in the middle one big tufae brick it was. Pizza boxes piled up all around with the logo.
My usual pizza orders is 3 or 4 3
WILD BROCCOLI, MOZZARELLA, GLOUCESTER OLD SPOT
HAND SLICED SAUSAGE
(No tomato)
£6.75
4
GLOUCESTER OLD SPOT HAM (Home Cured ),
MOZZARELLA, BUFFALO RICOTTA, WILD MUSHROOMS
(Little tomato)
The very first thing you notice is the pizza base, the consistency is medium thick, with crusty edges and blister looking bubbles ready to pop. Upon first bite, not sure what to make of the unknown sourness it was truly unique. It took a while to get use to and eventually I grew to love it. The crust was almost like Nan bread locked with moisture inside.
The pizza had the right balance of flavours, saltiness from the ham, creamy rich cheese, meaty wild mushrooms and buffalo ricotta.
Yes, I recommend Franco Manco for good pizza with a twist; the Stratford branch is perfect to get away from the queues in Brixton.
£6.85 for a pizza is a real bargain and taste much better then some of the high street chains out there.
