南丫島 Lamma island

On the fourth day of vacation, we went to catch the ferry from Central Pier. From Hong Kong, there are two routes to Lamma Island. Going to either Yung Shue Wan or Sok Kwu Wan. Costing $22 dollars per a person, you can use the Octopus card to pay. We decided to go to Yung Shue Wan as there were more things to do in that part of the island.

The Journey from Central pier to Yung Shue Wan is about 30-40 mins. If you decide to eat at Rainbow Restaurant there’s a free ferry service that takes you to and from Hong Kong to Lamma Island. Lamma Island is known for the fisherman boats and villages.

The skies were clear of clouds, and crystal clear sea, there are a handful of seafood restaurants with a seafront view. There are no transports of buses as such, people ride on bicycles or on foot to get around the island.

We ate lunch at 南丫海景民豐海鮮酒家 Lamma Seaview Man Fung Seafood Restaurant, ordering a whole bunch of fresh seafood from the tanks. 攋尿蝦 mantis shrimp pissing shrimp is something I wanted to try for a long time. Hearing about it from TVB dramas.

Sold per a piece as with the other items on the menu. We feasted on chilli crab, fried scallops, seafood noodles, abalones. It was one of the pricier meals out in Hong Kong for £40 per person.

After our meal, we walked around town the Yung Shue Wan main street is filled with multi-cultural shops, pubs, diverse eateries. The dessert shop we went to had someone from England working there.

You pass Tin Hau temple, and there is signage of the history of the village. Actor Chow Yun Fat 周潤發 is from Lamma Island.

Hung Shing Yeh beach

Within a 30 minute walk, we managed to get to Hung Shing Yeh beach. The water is clean, and powdery sand attracts many people. What I loved is the beach stalls selling freshly made tofu fa dessert perfect for the hot humid weather.
