My last day of the Zurich trip landed on my actual birthday I had a flight booked in the evening at 7 pm so I pretty much had another day to spend in the city. The 13th May was also Mother’s Day in Europe many places were booked up for the occasion. My cousins booked lunch at The Artisan in the Wipkingen area. It is named after the artisanal growers and urban gardens. Located along the main street the glass doors lead you to an urban jungle. Outside in the urban gardens, you see people looking after the plants and crops. Dark oak wooden tables are chairs matched the hanging green plants.

The menu changes by the season, but burgers and pizzas remain a staple. We started off with a few sides. Meat-free tacos (14CHF) filled with smoke vegetables, tofu, chipotle and pickled veg. Even without meat the look and texture still felt like I was eating meat.

Next up we had crispy chicken wings (17CHF), deep fried chicken coated up in five spices with a chilli sauce dip.

For mains I want for the dry aged beef, with bacon and cheese (29.50CHF), beef patty is thick meaty and juicy. Melted cheese overlaps the patty, a slice of bacon and smoky BBQ sauce loaded on top. Hand cut chips are thick as wedges, skin still on, chips are not too oily and had enough crisp to it. The service at The Artisan was a little slow but we enjoyed the food and the garden outside.

With some time left, we drove up to the mountains and sat inside Restaurant Die Waid. The restaurant my cousin originally wanted to book. Still stuffed from our lunch we decided to share a cake and have some hot chocolate, whilst overlooking the mountain views. The bar area is sophisticated sleek black tables, red leather sofas.
