Alaska seafood pop-up experience hits London Travel back in time to the Gold Rush era on Saturday 21 June 2014 as Pimlico Gardens becomes an Alaskan settlement for one day only!
Welcome to The Last Frontier and the prospector settlement of Nome, uprooted from the edge of the Bering Sea on Alaska’s southern Seward Peninsula and dropped into London’s Pimlico Gardens for the day.
The year is 1899. It’s a ramshackle sort of a place scattered with wagons, lean-tos and wooden huts. Greying long johns hang from criss-crossing washing lines while the twang of campfire music can be heard from the saloon, the heart and soul of the encampment. But there’s more to Alaska’s wealth than shiny, golden nuggets alone; with over three million lakes, 34,000 miles of coastline and 3,000 rivers, the state – nicknamed The Last Frontier – boasts an abundance of some of the world’s best wild, natural and sustainable seafood. Its waters are home to the likes of the mighty king crab, sockeye salmon, black cod and halibut and this is the chance for foodies of all ages to sample the very best in responsibly sourced Alaskan produce, as well as honing their cookery skills.
Visitors to the Alaska seafood pop-up will have the opportunity to learn how to cure, smoke and prepare fish with a team of chefs who previously worked at award-winning London restaurants including Moro, Bocca Di Lupo and St John. So head to London’s riverside Pimlico Gardens on 21 June for a fun-filled, family-friendly day of Alaska seafood tastings and demonstrations, live music, panning for gold, treasure hunts, and hear the incredible story of The Last Frontier, as told by the men and women of Nome themselves.
As night falls a limited number of just 80 lucky diners will then take their seats under the cover of canvas to enjoy a luxurious seafood banquet, a specially prepared gastronomic Alaskan feast and an unforgettable evening of food, drink and dancing. The menu will include a selection of four delicious dishes including; Wild Alaska King Crab on Toast, Confit Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon, Roast Wild Alaska Halibut, and, for dessert, Herb Cake, served with Almond ice cream, blueberries and strawberries. And as if a banquet under the stars isn’t tempting enough, we’ve teamed up with the generous folk at Buffalo Trace to help keep the party going and the conversation flowing with their sweet, spicy, smoky smooth Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
