When the original Hawksmoor in Spitalfields closed for a refurb than offered 50% off their food at their re-opening my fellow foodie blogger friend and I couldn’t resist. Can you believe it’s been eleven years since Hawksmoor opened?
My first encounter at their Air Street location was underwhelming. However, Spitalfields this visit redeem itself. Hawksmoor Spitalfields is located on Commercial road near Brick Lane and Spitalfields market. The restaurant was almost full, with a mixture of people from guys in suits to people leisurely having dinner.
I accidently walked into the wrong entrance, the door pushed into diners seated and the till. Staff had to redirect me to the front desk. The smell of fresh paint lingers in the air. Dark wooden oak spills into the floor, walls and tables.
The waitress wasn’t too confident with the wines and their inhouse expert had to come out. I selected one of the whites whilst T had a red.
We picked a few of the sides to start, mac and cheese, triple cooked chips and mash & gravy. The bone in prime rib steak comes served in a staub cast iron dish. Weighing in around 1.2kg the rare pink meat is bright and bloody, and the rest is browned up. This steak is juicy and soft, the fattiness is chewy. Smothering the steak with Stichelton hollandaise sauce is a match made in heaven. It was polished off instantly. Sides are on the smaller size, freshly cooked triple cooked chips is a must with steak.
Gravy is thick and rich in beef flavour, whilst the mash is smooth like butter. Hawkmsoor prime rib steak on its own would have costed £70 and we got it for a steal. Service is expectational and speedy, food is cooked up fast.
