The Queen of Hoxton – Quirky ‘n fun Mindfulfold origami

The Queen of Hoxton is one of those places where you never know what to expect on a night out. A hidden gem in the midst of the city between Liverpool Street and Old Street located in a small quiet corner. Ping pong tables set up upon arrival on a bar area, it’s after climbing 5/6 flights of stairs you find a mysterious hideout. A winter wonderland rooftop bar called Once Upon a WigWam inspired by the Grimm Brother’s fairy tales.

A tree-house in the middle, open wood fires to toast some marshmallows and get cozy with another person.

A big story book with  a spread of handwritten tales, a gingerbread house. The rooftop bar in the middle of the city is quite something. Even in the outdoors, you be kept warm, now the reason I can here was for a class of origami. Mindful Origami is by Samuel Tsang, I’ve been meaning to attend one of his Origami classes for a while. He happened to be at the Pan de Vie event I went to the week before and I kept in touch.

With the Mindful Origami ticket a drink at the bar is included, handed a shiny reflective gold playing card off to the bar I went. They had a mixture of selections at the bar, and even hot cocktails. To keep myself warm I opted for The Golden Apple, a warm mug of hot gingerbread and apple toddy.

Samuel started the workshop with a presentation of origami and how much it can be worth, selling your creations on Etsy.

Our very first thing we created was a simple folded envelope, Samuel is very thorough with his method I noticed for the very time how my technique improved folding the crease dead straight.

Next, was a beautiful 3D tulip and lastly a crane. We all enjoyed the evening drinking cocktails and making origami. Samuel is a great teacher he is releasing a book on Origami in April. Click below to order.
